The energy of a new bag: Why buying a new handbag can feel like a fresh start
Buying a new handbag makes me feel so abundant and almost like i am becoming a new version of me. I always feel like a new bag gives my life an upgrade in all the right ways! In this blog post i am going to share with you how buying a new handbag can feel like a fresh start and a new version of you ✨
Over this past weekend i bought not one, but two new purses! Now, i am typically someone that uses something until it falls to pieces, i don’t really like to live in excess (if you do, that is totally ok!) but i have always liked a few good quality things over quantity (It’s the Taurus in me).
I honestly have about three bags that i will swap out from time to time. But, over this weekend i bought a couple more since i was feeling extra abundant. I always trust my intuition and feelings when it comes to spending money, if it feels good i buy the things, if i feel some kind of resistance, i don’t buy the things. This weekend, however, i felt like i wanted to splurge and spoil myself (when you spoil you, the Universe will spoil you too).
That being said, these new bags made me feel like a whole new person. I think i was in need of a life upgrade and these new bags were symbolizing that energetically. Pictured below is one of the bags i bought. This one is so different from the cross body bags i used to buy when my children were small and i needed free hands. Even the color is something i wouldn’t normally choose as i typically stick to neutrals.
There is something about a new purse that feels like more than simply buying something beautiful.
You bring it home. You remove the tissue paper. You open every pocket. You move your wallet, keys, lipstick, sunglasses and little necessities from your old bag into your new one. And somehow, in the process, it can feel as though you are stepping into a slightly different version of yourself. The upgrade your soul was craving.
I have always believed that what we surround ourselves with influences our energy. From our home to our car and even the purse we carry can tell a lot about how we feel about ourselves and how we feel internally.
A handbag is something we take with us everywhere. It holds the things we need to move through our day, but it can also become a small reflection of how we see ourselves. It is also a vessel in which we carry our money and can say a lot about our financial situation.
Your purse is something you carry everyday.
You may not think about it, but you spend a lot of time with your purse.
It comes to the grocery store.
It sits beside you at lunch.
It travels in the car.
It comes into your home.
It may accompany you to school drop-off, appointments, coffee dates, dinners, vacations and celebrations.
Unlike your home it literally travels through life with you. This makes it more personal. Your purse can tell someone things about you before you have even spoken to them (let’s be real, people will judge you on your purse, your shoes, and your eyebrows!).
There is no right or wrong purse that you should carry, the price and brand have nothing to do with it, but does your purse reflect how you want to feel? That is the question you need to ask yourself.
A New Purse Can Represent a New Chapter.
Sometimes we buy something new because we genuinely need it, and sometimes we buy something because deep down we know we are ready for a life upgrade. For me it was a bit of both. I didn’t want to buy a cross body bag because my children are older and i wanted something that represented me as i am right now, and i did need a new one.
As we move through different seasons of life, our personal style can evolve along with us.
The woman who loved one particular style in her twenties may want something completely different in her thirties or forties. This is something that is really showing itself to me at the age of 39. I feel like i am no longer trying to be the young me and i am fully embracing who i am and what i like now. My style has definitely evolved in 2026. I am loving my body and just learning how to dress it properly instead of trying to squeeze into things my 20 year old version would have worn.
You may begin craving quality over quantity.
You may become less interested in trends and more interested in timeless pieces.
You may want something that feels elegant but practical.
You may want to look at the things you own and feel, “Yes. This feels like me.”
That is a beautiful place to be.
A new purse can become a small physical symbol of that transition.
Not because the purse magically changes your life—but because you can use it to mark the decision to move differently through your life.
Take a look at what you own right now in terms of style and purses, and let go of old versions of you. Why are you still clinging to the past? Why do you want to be stuck in the old identity?

What Are You Ready to Carry?
When shopping for a new bag, this is the question to ask yourself. This is the question i asked myself when i walked into Kate Spade on Saturday.
Maybe you just want to feel more put together in your everyday life, or maybe it’s something more than that.
Maybe the answer is confidence.
Maybe it is abundance.
Maybe it is adventure.
Maybe it is creativity.
Maybe it is simplicity.
Maybe it is femininity.
Whatever it is for you, let it be the guide when selecting your new purse.
Clear Out the Energy of Your Old Purse.
Before you bring a new purse into your life. Clear out your old one, clear out your old energy.
I spent years as a Feng Shui consultant and i will tell you this: What has accumulated in your purse, is either blocking or allowing wealth and opportunities. It is all connected.
You might be surprised by what has accumulated inside your handbag.
Receipts.
Old lip products.
Random hair ties.
Wrappers.
Expired coupons.
Loose change.
Pens that don't work.
Things that belong somewhere else.
And probably at least one item you've been carrying around for months without ever using.
Take everything out.
Then clean the inside of your purse.
Wipe down the exterior if the material allows it.
Clean your wallet.
Throw away old receipts.
Put loose change where it belongs.
Remove anything you no longer need.
This simple process can feel incredibly refreshing.
You are essentially saying:
I don't need to carry everything with me anymore.
And that can be a powerful mindset beyond your handbag.
Your Purse Shouldn't Become a Storage Closet.
I know how easy it can become to just put everything in your purse and the leave it there for months. But the more we carry here, the more we carry through life. Literally, and energetically.
When we just throw things in our purse and carry it around, we may also carry other peoples opinions, expectations, and old beliefs in our minds.
What we carry in our purse and minds supports our lives.
Choose Quality Over Quantity.
There is something incredibly satisfying about owning one beautiful handbag that you genuinely love.
It doesn't necessarily need to be expensive.
In fact, luxury isn't always about the price tag.
Luxury can be:
beautiful materials
thoughtful design
timeless style
craftsmanship
functionality
something that makes you feel special every time you use it
A beautiful handbag can be an investment in your personal style.
The goal isn’t to accumulate, it is to curate what we have. Having an abundance of purses doesn’t mean that you are abundant, it could mean that you have abundance leaks.
Your home doesn't need to be filled with things.
Your closet doesn't need to be overflowing.
And your handbag certainly doesn't need to be stuffed with everything you own.
Beautiful living is often about choosing better, not simply choosing more.
The Energy of the Color You Carry.
I very much believe that colors carry energy. I chose a green purse because i knew that i am ready for the next level of abundance. I was actually drawn to that color.
Let your intuition guide you.
Black
Black can feel sophisticated, powerful and timeless.
A black handbag is classic for a reason. It works with almost everything and can create an effortless, polished feeling.
Brown and Cognac
Warm browns can feel grounded, natural and dependable.
They're especially beautiful if you love a classic, relaxed luxury aesthetic.
Cream and White
Light neutrals can feel fresh, clean and feminine.
They also have that beautiful quiet-luxury quality—simple, elegant and understated.
Green
Green is associated with nature, growth and renewal.
A deep forest green handbag can be particularly beautiful if you want something that feels luxurious while still being connected to the natural world.
Burgundy
Burgundy feels rich, sensual and sophisticated.
It is a beautiful alternative to traditional red when you want something noticeable without being overly bright.
Pink
Soft pink can feel feminine, romantic and playful.
A pink handbag can also be a wonderful way to bring a little joy into an otherwise neutral wardrobe.
Gold
Gold naturally feels celebratory and luxurious.
You don't necessarily need a gold handbag. Even gold hardware can give a bag that beautiful feeling of richness and polish.
Ultimately, choose the color that makes you feel good.
Create Your Own New-Purse Ritual.
If you're buying a new handbag, make the experience a little more intentional.
It doesn't need to be elaborate.
When you bring your new purse home:
1. Empty your old purse completely.
Don't simply transfer everything.
Start fresh.
2. Clean your wallet.
Remove receipts and anything unnecessary.
3. Clean your new handbag.
If appropriate for the material, gently wipe it down and allow it to feel fresh and ready.
4. Choose your essentials.
Only put back what you actually use.
5. Add one beautiful detail.
Perhaps your favorite lipstick, a small perfume, a pretty compact mirror or a beautiful cardholder. I love adding purse charms!
6. Think about your next chapter.
Ask yourself:
How do I want to feel this year?
What am I ready to make space for?
What am I no longer willing to carry?
What kind of woman am I becoming?
Then carry your new purse into your life with that intention.
The point isn’t the purse.
Maybe your children are growing and you're rediscovering who you are outside of motherhood.
Maybe you're entering your forties and realizing that you don't want to spend the next decade waiting to become the woman you've imagined.
Maybe you're simply ready to enjoy your life a little more.
Sometimes we need small physical reminders of big internal changes and a new purse can be one of them. Use your new purse to help you create the woman that you are becoming.
My bag essentials.
To help stop the clutter. Here are my personal bag essentials that i keep no matter what. When i have core purse items, the rest can either be sorted and thrown or stored somewhere else.

A small compact mirror
A small make up pouch with essentials like mini perfume

I try not to carry what doesn’t belong to me, in my purse and in my everyday life.
