6 natural beauty tips for your summer glow up
One: Hydrate like it’s a beauty ritual (because it is)
You can’t fake glowing skin if you are dehydrated. It just won’t work.
Water is the foundation of everything: plump skin, bright eyes, smooth texture. As the weather gets warmer, your body loses more water through sweating etc. and this shows up quickly in your skin.
Drink one glass as soon as you wake up, and try to drink at least 8 cups throughout your day.
If you don’t love the taste of plain water:
Add a lemon, cucumber, or berries for a mild flavor.
Sip your water slowly to get used of the taste.
Drink your water while repeating affirmations to take your mind off of the water itself.
Tip: Place a small pinch of Baja salt in your mouth before your drink your water. The salt will help bring the water to your cells and plump and hydrate them. You will feel hydrated for longer.
Two: Dry brushing
I am obsessed with Ayurvedic beauty and dry brushing your body is one Ayurvedic tips that are essential for your summer glow up.
It helps:
Gently exfoliate dead skin
Boost circulation
Leaves your skin feeling smoother
How to do it: Before getting in the shower, use a natural bristle brush and sweep upwards towards the heart in long, gentle strokes.
Do this 3 or 4 times a week, and your skin will start to look like it has been polished.
Three: Eat your glow
Your skin is a mirror of what you feed your body. If you have been feeding it the wrong types of food for your body type, it will show in ways like inflammation, puffiness, and even acne.
But, instead of cutting things out completely, focus on adding glow-supporting foods to your diet.
Add foods like:
Berries as they are an antioxidant and they help to brighten skin
Avocados as they are a healthy fat and support hydration
Cucumbers and watermelon as they are rich in water and help plump the skin naturally
Glow tip: Think fresh, juicy, and colorful. If it looks vibrant on your plate, it will translate to your skin.
Four: Switch to light weight skin loving oils
Creams filled with lots of chemicals are actually really bad for your skin and can be too heavy which can block pores and cause acne. I have always believed that we should be able to at least pronounce the ingredients that we are putting on our bodies, especially our faces.
Not only are natural oils better for your skin, they are also great for your wallet as a little goes a long way and one bottle can last for months.
Swap out your usual moisturizing creams for oils like:
Rosehip oil (my personal favorite)
Jojoba oil
Sweet almond oil
These oils absorb beautifully and give your skin that soft, hydrated look without feeling greasy.
Glow tip: Apply a few drops of rosehip oil to your face and then use a Gua Sha to help reduce puffiness. Do this as part of your night time skin care routine.
Five: Pretty hair should be part of your glow up
Your hair is your crown and you should care for it a such.
I have been oiling my hair consistently for the last 5 years and it is long, strong, and healthy. Hair oiling goes back centuries in many different cultures.
Try this: The night before you are washing your hair, do a deep scalp massage with oils like coconut oil, argan oil, or castor oil. You can also apply the oil to the ends of your hair to prevent and heal split ends. Wash out thoroughly the next morning.
Not only will your hair grow like crazy, but it will be softer and healthier. Remember to change your pillow case often to prevent acne and help your skin stay healthy.
Glow tip: If your hair is always frizzy with many fly aways, you may be deficient in the vitamin B12.
Six: Oil your belly button
Yes, you read that right!
This one seems unusual but it’s rooted in Ayurvedic practices.
The belly button is believed to be connected to multiple nerves and energy pathways in the body.
Try this before bed:
Apply one or two drops of Castor oil or Coconut oil to the belly button to help with dry skin, dry lips, and overall body softness. It is best to lay down on a towel, apply a few drops to the belly button and then wait a few minutes for the oil to absorb. You can even massage it in if you are experiencing bloating and discomfort from over eating.
