5 ways to detox after an unhealthy weekend
A guide on how to get back into alignment after a weekend of too much!
Last weekend it was my sons 10th birthday and we all over indulged a little too much. This is my guide on how i get back into a healthy place to get my week started off in the right energy.
We have all had those weekends. A little too much sugar, late nights, and maybe a few drinks.
Then all of a sudden it’s Monday and we could be feeling drained, bloated, tired, and maybe even a little bit of guilt. It can be easy to just keep going in that direction after a few days of it, like one more piece of cake or you may be tempted to call in sick to work, but don’t let this get you into an unhealthy spiral, instead try this.
Detoxing after a binge weekend isn’t about punishment or extremes. It is just about bringing your body back into a healthy balance so that you can move through your week feeling good and in the right energy.
One: Start your morning with a lemon water
Before coffee and before food put a lemon slice in a warm cup of water.
This helps:
Stimulate digestion
Support liver function
Flush out toxins
If you feel like your electrolytes are out of whack, add a pinch of Baja, or Celtic sea salt for some added minerals.
Two: Eat light, hydrating foods
After a heavy weekend, your body needs to be nourished properly again.
Focus on:
Fresh fruit like berries, watermelon, and apples
Steamed vegetables
Soups and broths
Herbal teas
Don’t feel like you need to restrict yourself or punish yourself, just give your body the right things.
Three: Move your body (gently)
Save your intense workout for tomorrow, focus on light movement for now.
Go for a walk
Try some yoga and stretching
Lift light weights
Don’t over do it especially if you have had some late nights. Just move enough to get your lymphatic system moving again.
Four: Take a detox bath or shower
I like to do this on a Monday evening when the day is almost over. It is just a nice way to end a Monday and really helps with a good nights rest.
If you are taking a bath add:
1 cup of Epsom salt
½ a cup of baking powder
Some magnesium flakes (optional)
A few drops of essential oils
Soak for at least 20 minutes and then give yourself a self massage with some warm oil like coconut or sweet almond oil.
Five: Reset your homes energy too
Your environment can also help make you feel better and help you to make better choices today.
Let in some fresh air
Get rid of any unhealthy foods you still have in your fridge - or give it away
Change your bedsheets - i do this every Sunday night to help me sleep better
Clean your floors - This helps to remove stagnant energy
If you had an event in your home - Put away decorations and bring your home back to its natural state
