My cozy morning routine that you will want to copy
There is some truth to what people say about how your morning goes, sets the tone for your day. I truly believe this and i live it everyday. I am going to tell you all about my morning routine so that you can start your day off calm and not chaotic ✨
The number one thing people say about me is ‘how are you always so calm?’
I always pride myself on that comment.
My calmness is something that i have taught myself over time, it is not a natural trait. So if you feel like you are not a calm person, that can change through your habits and how you treat yourself.
My morning routine is a huge part of how my day goes. The love i pour into myself in the quiet hours before my children wake up are what fill me up and recharge me so that i can be the calm mom that they deserve. It all starts at 6am!
My 6 step cozy morning routine
My morning routine goes a little like this:
Step one: The 6AM wake up
I wake up at 6am every single day, even on the weekends. Waking up early, according to Ayurveda, is good for your circadian rhythm. What helps me wake up early is being strict about what time i go to bed. I am in bed for 9:30pm every night. I also have a night routine that i follow which i will write about soon!
Some tips that have helped me wake up early:
Counting to 5 as soon as my eyes open and then just getting out of bed, even if my mind is telling me to stay.
Making sure my room is warm when i wake up - getting out of bed when it is cold makes it harder.
Not waking up and checking my phone. This will have you waking up and scrolling or checking emails which fills your mind with too much information first thing.
Step two: Hygiene habits
Before i brush my teeth or shower, i will oil pull and use my tongue scraper. At night our mouths harbor bacteria that just sits on our teeth and tongue. I will swish around some coconut oil for 5 minutes and then use my tongue scraper. I also do my morning skin care routine now.
Step three: Hydration
I always start my morning off with warm water and lemon. This is wonderful for your digestion and is a must before you drink coffee or other drinks in the morning.
Warm water is nourishing for your body. If you start your day off with ice cold water, you whole body will feel the shock and it will upset your digestion.
Lemon water benefits in the morning:
Rehydrates the body after sleep.
Helps kickstart metabolism and fat burning energy.
Enhances gut function and digestion.
Supports clear, glowing skin.
Activates brain function and mental clarity.
Fuels cell repair and healing.
Tip: I slice my lemons and then freeze the slices. This helps the hot water cool down faster and saves the lemon from spoiling.
Step four: Meditation
This is a non negotiable, even when i don’t feel like it!
Meditation in the morning helps your mind be clear for the day. When we wake up we often become aware and start thinking of all of our problems and tasks we have to do for the day. Meditation will help clear your mind and help you find solutions to those problems, while keeping you calm to tackle all of the things you need to do.
Meditation tip: If there is something you are facing, when you meditate, visualize your most desired outcome. Feel the feelings of it and hold those feelings for as long as possible. Similarly, if there is something that you want to manifest, hold the picture in your mind and feel the feelings for 17 seconds.
You can listen to meditation music to help you relax, or just simple sit in silence if you can. Start with 5 minutes, and then work you way up to 15 minutes.
Step five: Journal
Similar to meditation, journaling can help you organize your thoughts and your day. When you write things down, you mind sees this as already accomplishing the things and then you are more likely to get them done.
Use your journal time to write out anything that is bothering you and then see it out of your mind, so that a solution may come forward. Also write out your to do list so you can physically see it and then mentally check things off as you get them done.
Journal tip: I also write out some affirmations and manifestations in my journal. Writing affirmations helps to affirm them in my subconscious mind, and writing down my manifestations as if they have already come to fruition helps me find the feelings of gratitude for them already being here.
Step six: Movement
Moving your body in the morning is not only amazing for your body and lymphatic system, it is also great for your mind. Exercises like some yoga stretches or even a walk, will help your mind shift any stagnant or negative energy that may be in your body.
I do 20 minutes on my walking pad and then some light weight lifting.
You can also just start with 5 minutes of stretching or a short walk. Any type of movement is good.
Now that your mind and body is calm and centered, eat a warm nourishing breakfast and warm shower if you haven’t already done so ✨
