My first weekend guide is here! I am so excited to start publishing these. I have always loved the idea of a weekend well spent even if it is just pottering around the home and rearranging, or cooking something special. Every weekend is a chance to try something new.

It is a very sunny Friday morning. I have a hot coffee in hand, a sleepy dog on my lap, and the sun is just streaming through the windows all around my home. After i write this i will be taking an ‘everything shower’, and then driving to the farm to hopefully see if my white sunflowers have bloomed (fingers crossed!). I am also eager to see the progress of our pumpkins!

Friday is our farm day and we typically don’t do much in terms of traditional schoolwork (i homeschool my three children if you are new here) and it is always the day when i plan what we are doing on the weekend. My husband works long hours Monday to Friday so our weekends are almost always spent together doing family activities and usually involve lots of food.

On Monday i got a call from one of brothers asking if i can make breakfast since he was craving crepes. We did a little brunch and the kids helped make the most amazing crepes, homemade whipped cream, and chopped up the last of the summers strawberries.

Making crepes is so simple. I actually don’t use a traditional crepe recipe, i use an English pancake recipe from my childhood with some tweaks that just work so well. I have made these since i was a teen and they come out so perfect every time.

If you have a crepe craving this weekend, why not try this as a breakfast or brunch recipe? The topping or filling options are endless.

My crepe recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 cups of milk

  • 1 cup of all purpose flour

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • A pinch of salt

  • Butter to fry

The method.

Add all of the ingredients to a bowl and either use a hand mixer or a whisk to mix all together until you see no lumps. I sometimes like to throw all of the ingredients in my blender and then let it work its magic.

It really just is that simple. If you like a thicker crepe you can add more flour.

Heat your frying pan with a little bit of butter to cover the pan. When it is hot add some batter. Add about half a cup and then spread it around the pan. When the corners of the crepe are a little brown and are curling upwards, you can flip to cook the other side.

Once cooked, flip onto a plate. Add more butter to your pan and repeat until all of your batter id use up.

The topping or filling options are endless.

Some we love are:

  • Berries and whipped cream

  • Apple pie filling

  • Maple syrup or golden syrup

  • Nutella and banana

If you don’t love a sweet brunch, you can also do savory fillings, just omit the vanilla extract in the recipe.

My other to do on my weekend list is to rearrange, refresh, and organize my home and closet.

Now that we are heading into fall, my summer decor just doesn’t feel right.

I am also ready to put away my summer clothes and bring out my chunky knit cardigans, sweaters, and boots! The best part of a season change is the excitement to change the energy in your home and wardrobe.

I truly believe that each season is a gift and brings its own excitement. We are part of nature and as nature knows what to do each season, we humans should work with that energy and do the same.

I am currently reading the book Evergreen, by Lydia Millen and i learning to embrace the joy of each season.

I typically get hit with a seasonal depression that hits just after Christmas, in the thick of winter. I have dealt with this ever since moving to Canada from the UK in 2009.

I am just not a winter person but i do understand its importance. I am going to try and embrace the next winter with as much excitement as i do in the Spring.

Things i am going to try to combat seasonal depression.

If you too suffer from a bout of seasonal depression, maybe the things i am going to try this next mid winter will help or inspire you.

  • Bring in warm lighting like lamps, candles, and salt lamps.

  • Make sure that i am keeping up with my vitamins and i am well rested and hydrated.

  • At home workouts twice a week.

  • Eating nourishing foods and trying new recipes.

  • Taking a course in January to keep my mind focused on something other than the weather.

  • Going for a walk on every mild weather day, especially if the sun is shining.

My home decor to do list

Now that fall is officially on its way, these are the things i will be doing in my home this weekend.

  • Changing the wreathe on my door. I am putting away the basket of faux tulips and i will looking for a new wreathe this weekend.

I also i am loving they idea of cutting some fresh ferns and then weaving my own wreathe. Dried fern looks so pretty and would work well in a DIY wreathe for fall. Maybe i will make my own with what i can find at the farm.

  • Putting heavier knit blankets on my sofas. It is definitely time to put away my light pink Kate Spade sofa blanket. I have just ordered the one pictured below on Amazon, i just love the color and the reviews are good.

  • Switching up my towels in the bathrooms and kitchen. There are so many pretty fall colored ones out right now.

  • Doing a wellness check on my houseplants. There is one that is slowly dying but has a few new green shoots, so i am not actually sure what it needs right now. My orchid however, is blooming again! Learn my tips on how to get your orchids to bloom again here.

  • Coffee table refresh. The last of my summer bouquets are dying and i just have a few sunflowers left. My coffee table currently looks like it is between seasons. This weekend i am going to switch up my coffee table books, give everything a wipe down and then give it a makeover for fall. I am loving gold accents and fall candles.

  • Bringing out my essential oil diffusers. Something about essential oils remind me of fall! I just picked up some new oil scents so i am excited to try them out.

I hope that however you choose to spend your weekend, it is magical and brings you joy!
