Growing up my parents were very into the Ayurvedic way of living. I never really appreciated it until now, in my 30’s where i actually live by these ancient systems. I am going to teach you what i do for shiny hair and glowing skin

In today’s world of 20 step beauty routines, new beauty product “must haves”, and complicated night routines, many women are turning back to ancient wisdom for simple, natural beauty.

One of the oldest beauty systems in the world comes from Ayurveda, a 5000 year old holistic healing practicefrom India that focuses on balancing the body, mind, and spirit.

Ayurveda is all about nourishing the body from the inside out. It is definitely not a quick fix and that is why it works.

Ayurvedic beauty routines are simple, natural, and incredibly effective. Many of the ingredients used in these rituals are also most likely sitting in your kitchen, which makes it so cost effective.

If you want glowing skin, shiny hair, and lots of compliments, here are five Ayurvedic beauty secrets every woman should know.

One: Practice daily oil massage (Abhyanga)

One of the most powerful Ayurvedic beauty rituals is called Abhyanga, or daily self massage with warm oils.

I know what you are thinking, who has time for a daily massage? But this practice is so important because it deeply nourishes the skin, improves circulation, and helps to remove toxins from the body. It also can help to calm the nervous system and leaves your skin feeling amazing.

Best oils to use:

  • Sesame oil: Warming, nourishing, and perfect for dry skin.

  • Coconut oil: Cooling and soothing.

  • Almond oil: Great for softening skin and improving glow.

How to do it:

  1. Warm a small amount of oil in your hands.

  2. Massage into the skin using circular motions.

  3. Start at your scalp and work down the body towards the feet.

  4. Let the oil sit for 10-20 minutes.

  5. Take a warm shower afterward.

Doing this regularly will make your skin softer, smoother, and more luminous.

Two: Cleanse your face with natural ingredients

Ayurveda encourages using natural, gentle ingredients rather than harsh chemicals.

Traditional Ayurveda skincare often uses ingredients like:

  • Turmeric

  • Honey

  • Yogurt

  • Rose water

  • Sandalwood powder

I make mask of coconut oil and turmeric once a week. I mix the two and then apply it to my face to 10 minutes. My skin is glowing after!

These ingredients help cleanse the skin, reduce inflammation, and brighten the complexion.

Three: Drink warm water and lemon in the morning

According to Ayurveda, healthy digestion is the foundation of beautiful skin.

When digestion is sluggish, toxins (known as ama) can build up in the body and show up as:

  • Dull skin

  • Acne

  • Inflammation

  • Fatigue

A simple ritual of starting your day with warm water and lemon can help:

  • Stimulate digestion

  • Flush out toxins

  • Hydrate the body

  • Improve skin clarity

Squeeze half a lemon into a cup of warm water and drink it first thing in the morning before breakfast.

Four: Nourish your hair with Ayurvedic oils

I religiously oil my scalp twice a week. Ayurveda places a string emphasis on nourishing the scalp to promote thick, healthy hair.

Hair oiling is an ancient practice that helps:

  • Strengthen the hair follicles, helping hair loss.

  • Reduce hair breakage.

  • Improve shine.

  • Stimulate hair growth.

Some of the most popular hair oils include:

  • Amla oil - Strengthens hair and promotes growth.

  • Bhringraj oil - Often called the ‘king of hair’ in Ayurveda.

  • Coconut oil - Deeply moisturizes and adds shine.

When i oil my scalp, i usually do it the night before i am going to wash it. Leaving the oil on overnight means the oil is deeply nourishing the hair. Wash out thoroughly.

Five: Follow a consistent daily routine

One of the most overlooked Ayurvedic beauty secrets is living in rhythm with your body.

Ayurveda encourages daily a daily routine known as Dinacharya, which includes consistent habits that support overall wellness.

When body feels balanced it naturally shows in your skin, hair, and energy.

Some simple daily habits include:

  • Waking up with the sun.

  • Drinking warm water.

  • Eating nourishing foods.

  • Wearing socks or slippers on cold floors.

  • Moving your body.

  • Meditating.
